Blue Mont Manor Offers Support After Hurricane Helene

A Sanctuary in the Storm
Perched on a hill overlooking Black Mountain, Blue Mont Manor remained miraculously untouched by the devastation of Hurricane Helene. While much of the town faced destruction and uncertainty, the Manor stood as a beacon of safety and normalcy. With its robust structure and unique design, featuring multiple sleeping suites connected to large central gathering spaces, it became one of the vital storm hubs in the area. In a time of chaos, Blue Mont Manor was more than a building, it was a sanctuary where people found stability, comfort, and hope.
A Legacy of Community Service
Built in 1918, Blue Mont Manor has a long-standing tradition of serving the community. From its days as a welcoming boarding house to its time as a nurturing home for foster children, the Manor has always been a place of respite and support. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, this legacy took on new meaning. The Manor’s doors opened once again to those in need. Over 75 meals were prepared, feeding nearly 700 people. As days passed, the manor’s kitchen remained a cornerstone of support, offering warm meals and a place to gather and regain strength.
A Hub of Relief and Support
As disaster unfolded, Blue Mont Manor quickly transformed into a vital lifeline for the surrounding community. Its resources were mobilized to provide essential support: hot meals were cooked on gas stoves, salvaged food was shared, and clean water from the Manor's community well was made available. Showers, laundry facilities, and a 24 hour no-cost supply store were established, offering comfort and practical assistance to hundreds. Over the following months, it provided 603 showers and helped families complete 180 loads of laundry. In a time of uncertainty, these basic necessities brought comfort and dignity to those affected by the storm.
A Testament to the Spirit of Giving
Blue Mont Manor's response to Hurricane Helene stands as a testament to the power of community and the importance of having a safe haven in times of crisis. The Manor's caretakers, guided by its legacy of service, transformed it into a place of hope and support, providing not just physical resources but also a sense of normalcy and belonging to those in need. The heartfelt gratitude from those who found shelter and relief within its walls highlights its invaluable role in the community’s recovery and reaffirms its lasting legacy as a place of strength and compassion.
